The New Five Borough Footy
In 2023, we started with a goal: to cover NYCFC, bringing fans match coverage, news, and analysis. But as we grew, we realized something—New York’s soccer culture is bigger than just one club. It’s the pickup matches in every borough, the grassroots academies shaping the next generation, the supporters’ bars packed for matches from around the world, and the community leaders nurturing the game from the ground up.
The sport here isn’t confined to a single team, and our coverage shouldn’t be either.
That’s why we’re evolving. This rebrand isn’t just about a new logo or a fresh coat of paint—it’s about fully embracing the game as it’s played, followed, and celebrated across the city. Five Borough Footy is growing to highlight the sport at every level, from the grassroots to the professional stage and everything in between.
What’s Changing?
A New Look Inspired by the City
One of the biggest changes is our updated branding. Our original identity was closely tied to NYCFC, but as we expand, we wanted a look that represents the entire football culture of this city.
The new logo takes inspiration from something every New Yorker knows well—the subway. The arrow design is a direct reference to the signage that guides millions through the city every day. Just like the transit system connects all five boroughs, soccer brings together communities in ways that transcend neighborhoods, backgrounds, and generations.
This isn’t just a new visual identity—it’s a symbol of movement, direction, and the ever-evolving passion for the game in New York.
More Original Content
This shift isn’t just aesthetic. We’re expanding the way we cover the game by creating content that dives deeper into the stories, moments, and people shaping football culture.
Spotlight Interviews
There are countless people moving the sport forward in this city, and we’re making sure their voices are heard.
• Academy Spotlights – In-depth conversations with the next generation of players working to make it at the highest level, providing insight into their journeys, challenges, and aspirations.
• Community Spotlights – Interviews with the organizers, coaches, and figures shaping the game from the ground up, whether through local leagues, pickup culture, or initiatives bringing the sport to underserved areas.
The Archive – A Space for Deeper Stories
Not everything fits into an Instagram post or a quick news update. The Archive will be where we publish long-form pieces that deserve more space—editorials, deep dives, and thought-provoking stories that go beyond the surface.
While a lot of our coverage will remain focused on the game in New York, The Archive will also allow us to step outside that lens when the story calls for it. Whether it’s a tactical breakdown, a historical look at the sport, or a think piece on the broader football world, this is where we’ll take the time to explore ideas that matter.
Footy Files – The Weekly Newsletter
For those who want to stay plugged into the game, we’re launching Footy Files, a weekly newsletter that rounds up the most important moments, upcoming matches, local events, and the stories you might have missed—all delivered straight to your inbox.
Video Content
Some of the most memorable moments in football happen away from the pitch. We’re working to bring more engaging video content to your screen, capturing the essence of the game through the eyes of the city. From behind-the-scenes glimpses of local games to unique challenges and in-depth storytelling, we want to bring the energy and passion of football culture to life in a new way.
The Next Chapter Starts Now
We’re still Five Borough Footy, but we’re raising our game. This rebrand is about capturing the full scope of the sport in New York and telling the stories that make this city’s football culture one of a kind.
New York has always been a football city. Now, we’re making sure it gets the coverage it deserves.
This is just the beginning.
